Hi, I'm making a "Bonchi" (Bonzai Chilli) and chopped the top off a 1.5yr old Apache. It seems to be getting on OK, but the dry top hole seems to be getting drier - any suggestions on what to do with it? I've read you can plug it with blutak but I'm worried the chemicals may harm it. Also garden centres seem to use some sort of wax for this type of job - would it be safe to just drip regular warm candle wax on it?

When pruning plants, I expect some die back of the pruned stem and allow extra length to accommodate it. Typically I'd expect the die back to be 1- 2 x the stem diameter. So if the stem is 0.5cm diameter, I prune to 1cm beyond where I want the stem to end. Over the next month or so the stem will die back and I'll trim off the dead material. I've never felt the need to seal the end of a pruned chilli stem. Hard woods and fruit woods are different.
