Hi all i would like to start growing (trying) some super hot chillies.
I live in york uk.
I was going to germinate them in my heated propogator then pot them and place them in a 600w 600d 1400h cupboard still in the heated prop base but with 3 x 35w cfls giving out nearly 10000 lumens (dont know if lumens make a difference).
12hrs light 12 hrs dark.
Is this setup good enough.

You will need 3000 lumens per square foot of plant canopy if you want to bring the chiles to fruit inside.

3-35w cfl will produce 1050 lumens.

I don't know the technicalities around types of light and lumen etc. Most people in the UK start them off under lights then move them to a greenhouse or polytunnel once the weather warms up. Mine are just on south-facing windowsills in the house; admittedly I don't get as good a crop as those with better set-ups but it's still possible and I had a few reaper pods last year.

I was advised to have the lights on for 18 hours and off for 6 if you want the plants to grow quickly. Once they are germinated and past the tiny stage they don't really need bottom heat any more although more experienced growers will be able to advise you whether it helps to boost growth.

Are you using potting compost or planning a hydroponic set-up?
