Mr Naga chilli pickle.

Can be bought online or from Asian shops. When it first came out it was extremely hot. Now I believe it's not made in Bangladesh but in the UK now. It's lost a lot of it's heat but still has the great flavour. It's still very hot. Great as a condiment or adding to cooking. Makes great chilli burgers. Usually priced at £3.50 today.

I've seen this in my local Asian Store. Will pick some up on your recommendation. Thanks Nagaz. Any idea what the mixed spices are?

Typical Asian spices such as cumin, turmeric and the like. Don't know the complete list. Definitely contains black caraway seeds. I'm quite addicted to the aroma. I am confident you'll like it. Oh made some burgers again with it. Just lovely.

Wow...what a rush
Takes me back to the patak chilli pickle days ( what ever happened to that,can't find it anywhere)
lovely flavour and a modest heat :lol: 8) :shock:

Also found this, not in the league but the flavour is awesome, really nice with cold cuts or cheese

It was a heck of a lot hotter when it first came out. Still has the great flavour though.

We have this in our house all the time. Even had a relative of hubbys take a couple of jars with him back to Bangladesh :lol:

There are a few Indian restaurants near me who have Naga currys on their recipe.

The first time I tried it I was amazed that they could get the flavour of the naga come through without too much heat. 2 of the restaurants then gave me vague descriptions of how they make the naga pickle then use it for the curry.

I asked to try some pickle and it was just Mr Naga...

The 3rd restaurant was honest and brought out the jar. That's the one I go back to now.

I'm sure the ones near us use this pickle a well, a spoonful of this and they bump up the price as if its something special, you can certainly pick up the smell of this pickle quite easily once its been used. I asked in one of the restaurants if they used fresh pods and he suddenly didnt understand English very well.

Its still a good pickle, very distinct flavour, I like to add it to channa dahl dishes.

Just tried this for the first time recently. Good stuff, but you're right Nagaz, not too hot. Expected it to be a lot hotter.

Just perusing through some old threads, & spotted this. A year or so ago, I took a sample of a few fresh chillis down to one of me locals, the landlord popped upstairs,then re-appeared with & handed me a jar of Mr Naga - which seemed like a good trade. I'm sure he told me where he'd got them from but alas several fine ales had been consumed.

I literally scoop out about a half a teaspoon max, & add to a curry along with a fresh Scotch Bonnet, a few ground dried cayennes, & a few splashes from random hot sauce bottles lying around - it's not the heat as such but the achrid pungent smell & taste, & it gives the sauce a lovely oily texture. I reckon i've used about a third of that small jar. Good stuff. Looking forward to getting some fresh choc bhut jols whacked in there.

Oooh i tell you what ... just had one of those all too rare moments of inspiration & whacked a half teaspoon of this in a feisty little fresh salad, with a drizzle of chilli oil & a splash of pickled Jalapeno vinegar juice - Mr Naga salad dressing - deeeelicious!

I picked this up from a shop in Reading, £2.65 a jar. It is very hot, far hotter than West Indian sauces. Flavour wise I find it disappointing, it lacks the lovely flavour of Habanero. It is worth a try, but I feel it is more heat than taste. I let some work colleagues try some, most amusing, but I am not sadistic, I made sure they took tiny amounts.

Ooohhh, I've just tasted a bit more, eeek, my oh my, actually okay flavour, but blimey my pain receptors are working their nuts off ...

Almost a month later, the jar is still nearly full, but I'm starting to warm (no pun intended) to this sauce. It's rather tasty. I've had several people try the tiniest bit, and almost scream when the heat hits them. I do warn them, and stopped a Mexican eating half a teaspoon full in one go.

I've just noticed that the ingredients now include citric acid (okay) and sodium benzoate (not so okay). And the vinegar is marked as from barley (good).

It has been mellowed down in heat in my view and has become far oiler. That's fine cos the oil is great for dripping onto pizza but the recipe used to be much better maybe 5 or so years ago when it changed.
