Hi guys and gals,
Have joined the forum a while ago and been reading it ever since, can't thank you all enough for sharing your experiences.
But finally have a reason to post something: one of this year's chillies I'm growing is variety called Basket of Fire, and it was growing steadily all the time with good growth and good leaves. Last week I did notice something unusual on the back of the leaf - see picture http://imgur.com/a/nxDD5 . And I have suspicion it is some sort of disease, as I noticed same formations starting to appear on my Cayenne too.
Please help me to find a solution to this, or at least point in the right direction. Don't want to loose any of my plants.
Thanks in advance.
Tom

Re: Help to diagnose disease
Don't panic! All is good. I had a quick look at the image and all I can see is a small amount of oedema.
It is like a sweat rash. The plant is having trouble ridding itself of excess water.
Causes are as follows:
1. Overwatering.
2. Lack of oxygen to the roots.
3. Compacted soil/compost.
4. Lack of airflow over the plants.
5. Excessive relative humidity
To confirm which one. Tip the plant gently out of the pot and inspect the compost and roots. You may find the soil dry on top but sodden toward the bottom.
Consider gently shaking the soil off and re-potting with fresh soil and monitor how much you water.
It won't hurt the plant at this stage, but needs correcting. Hope this helps.

Just to report, repotted my Basket of fire, less watering. Result: new leaves seem to be growing without any signs of oedema. Thanks again Heefy

My pleasure. It's very common. I still get it on plants from time to time.Stegefever wrote:Just to report, repotted my Basket of fire, less watering. Result: new leaves seem to be growing without any signs of oedema. Thanks again Heefy

Re: Help to diagnose disease
Hello everyone,
I came here because of the exact same thing start showing on my chilli leaves.
Now that I know the problem I have improved my air flow around my plant using a small (80mm) pc fan and gonna leave the plants on the dry side in the future.
My question is: are the already infected? leaves recover or they will just die? The new ones doesn't have the symptom for now.
Thanks everyone
Edit: my case is even less presented then the OP's

They will probably recover as long as they're not too far gone.
