F1 Bhut Jolokia???

Post by ickyan »

Is this really an F1?? The labels image is wrong but the pods look very Bhut Jolokia. Very vigorous plant, maybe it was crossed with something similar to give hybrid vigour? Or maybe it is just wrong.

Not sure whether to save seeds or not.

Seems unlikely to be an F1. Looks like you've got it outdoors so they might have crossed anyway, if you have other chillies in the vicinity. I'd still risk saving seeds, personally, as those pods look fantastic.

I'm not growing any other capsicums this year sadly! Will definitely save seeds, the plant was only small in June, its ridiculously fast growing.

Its in a polytunnel but the doors are open a lot, not sure any neighbours are growing C.chinenses, but who knows.

Perhaps its a hybrid between two Bhut Jolokias to give it some vigour? The photo on the label makes me doubt what they have also written, maybe writing F1 just attracts a better price.
